Holidays and Families
| Year after year, from Thanksgiving to New Years, it’s the same old story – some family members just don’t get along. Now that’s not in every family and surely a blanket statement shouldn’t speak for all.
But really, don’t we all know someone who every year experiences the same thing? Hurt feelings and the promises of never subjecting themselves to family gatherings again? I know I do and I’d bet you do as well.
The fact is that growing up in a household we know one another’s moments of glory and the deepest times of shame and defeat. We know the normal conflicts of family life and most importantly, the memories that we’ve all kept within – many for decades – and the holidays seem to trigger the reliving of the worst of those times. It might seem as if you’re reliving the worst of times but it is those same experiences and memories that make much of the person we are today.
Holiday Blessings and Forgiveness
So this holiday, when we give thanks for so many blessings, let’s remember that forgiveness isn’t just one way, each of us are responsible for our own actions and kindness, especially towards family, can be the best gift of all.
Wishing you the blessings of the season and a wonderful 2015
