FAQs North Texas Chaplains
How do we get started – how do we book you for our wedding?
Begin by completing the online contact/information form, then send the form. Or, text or call us at 214-364-6667 to check our availability. The next step is for us to set up a face-to-face meeting to make sure we have a good fit, that our personality and services match what you’re looking for. There’s no charge for that meeting and if you’re happy, we can complete an Officiant Service Agreement, make the 50% deposit. After that, and depending on the time before the wedding, we’ll set a second date to get together and plan the ceremony details. If yours is a short-notice or out-of-town couple coming back to the area wedding, we can meet by phone, FaceTime or Skype and continue the process.
How do we obtain a marriage license?
Your marriage license can be obtained from any County Clerk’s Office in Texas and is accepted in any Texas county as valid. You can apply for your license online (recommended) and then head to the County Clerk’s Office to obtain it. You will be asked for picture identification and the process just takes a few minutes. Marriage licenses are valid for 90 days and become effective after a 72 hour waiting period.
Are Chaplains ordained Ministers?
Yes, ordained non-denominational ministers are able to legally marry couples in and out of the State of Texas. Additionally, our Chaplains have many years of pastoral and wedding experience and are happy to share with you ideas that other couples have shared with them.
Can we write our own vows and help create our own ceremony?
Of course; your input is essential and invited! We like to meet with our couples to make sure we understand the type of ceremony they prefer, the special memories and love story of their relationship and then we’ll weave it all together to make your ceremony uniquely yours. You are welcome to write your own vows, pick readings and other essential parts of the ceremony or we’ll come up with some together that fit you and your special moment.
Do you perform non-religious ceremonies?
It’s not unusual for couples to prefer “spiritual” ceremonies that honor their lives together and focus on the their future happiness. From the basic to the most traditional and ornate, we’re able to suggest ceremonies and customs suited to virtually every background and belief.
Do you require pre-marital counseling?
No, it’s not required in the State of Texas however, there is a Texas sponsored program called “Twogether For Texas” (http://www.twogetherintexas.com) that offers a substantial marriage license fee reduction upon completion. We encourage you to visit their website to see if it’s right for you.
Does it matter that either of us has been married before, divorced, or have children?
Of course not, many of the couples have been previously married and, if there are children, with your permission we’ll include them in the ceremony. They can be recognized and vows can be taken to include their importance in your lives.
What do you wear when officiating weddings?
It’s customary to wear business attire when we officiate but we tailor our dress to your wedding theme or personal preference. For larger, more formal ceremonies we’ll typically be asked to wear a pulpit robe if you prefer. Of course Hawaiian shirts are equally welcomed.
How is the reservation of my wedding handled?
You will receive a detailed confirmation when a non-refundable Deposit of 50% of the total fee is paid. The balance is due one month in advance of the scheduled wedding.
Can we pay the entire balance when we book to get it out of the way?
Absolutely, but in all cases, the total amount is due a month prior to the wedding day.
Plans change – what happens if ours do?
It’s our goal to accommodate your special day and we try our best to accommodate you if the date or time changes. If your wedding is cancelled more than 30 days prior to the scheduled date you will not be obligated for the second payment however, the initial deposit is, in most cases, non-refundable. If your wedding is cancelled within 30 days of the actual wedding date we’ll refund 25% of the total fee paid (half of the second payment).
